96pgs. Burgundy Silk covered boards, embossed gilt lettering. Prev.owner signature on the front endpapers, as well as a partially erased date (January 1938). 96 gravure plates plus a frontispiece photo of Atget by Berenice Abbott. There is light fading to the spine and lettering, offsetting to the front free endpaper, with even toning to the pages. A tiny nick is present on the bottom of the spine edge, and there are two small chips on the foldout-lettepress booklet in the rear. Otherwise the corners are sharp, the yellow top edge is clean. An attractive, well preserved copy of this landmark book of modern photography.

Tan board wraps , black lettering. Booklet with pgs. 33--42 and architectural drawings which is a catalogue of the 25 black and white indiviual leaves that are present. Works by Le Corbusier, Gropius, Bruno and Max Taut, Schneck, others.. The wraps are sturdy, with some toning, a closed tear along the middle spine, and some corner wear. the Booklet and plates are in excellent condition. L’Architecture Vivante was published quarterly between 1923 and 1932. Jean Badovici, a Romanian architecture and critic, edited the magazine for two years from 1923 to 1925. He was an influential critic and mentor in France of international modern architecture, and he convinced the publisher, Albert Morancé, of the need for such a magazine. Text in French.

Unclpped pictorial dust jacket is an original first issue jacket with the "Humanity Uprooted" priced at $3.00 on the rear panel. the DJ shows signifcant wear: chips, rubbing, soiling on rear panel, foxing on the flaps and has been reinforced with four strips of archival tape on the inner side of the jacket. In mylar sleeve. Extremely scarce.

Engraved title page with portrait medallion ("vatis amatoris iulia sculpta manu"); author's portrait on verso of tenth preliminary leaf. Page 353 mis-number 353 and p. 361 misnumbered 369, but page sequence is correct. Vellum overlapping fore-edges, Vellum is soiled, spine darkened with chip in red leather label. Front hinge is split between ffep and title page but binding stitching is secure and tight. Owner's name and pencil markings on ffep. Text block is very tight, pages are very clean throughout with only a corner off of leaf five and a tiny closed tear in the margin of pp. 105-106, neither of which affects the text. Two lines underscored on p. 151. Latin. Iohannis Secundi (Johannes Secundus, Janus Secundus, Jan Everaerts) (1511-1536) was a New Latin poet of Dutch nationality. He wrote elegies, epigrams, odes, epistles, epithalimia, itineraries, and other prose. His most famous work was Liber Basiorum (Book of Kisses) which is among the works in this volume. The compiler, Peter Schrijver (1576-1660) was was a Dutch writer and scholar on the history of Holland and Belgium. A remarkably tight and clean copy of this very scarce book.

Unclipped pictorial jacket has minor closed tear, light toning at extremities of the rear panel. In a clear acetate sleeve with author and title in white lettering.. André Malraux, France's Minister of Culture wanted something unique for the Ceiling of the Paris Opera and decided Chagall would be the ideal artist. The images Chagall painted on the canvas paid tribute to the composers Mozart, Wagner, Mussorgsky, Berlioz and Ravel, as well as to famous actors and dancers. After the new ceiling was unveiled, "even the bitterest opponents of the commission seemed to fall silent". This book exemplifies the wonderful color and imagery that Chagall can offer.

Ten matching volumes (complete). Arnheim Edition. Mixed set: 9 volumes are #236 from a limited edition of 300; Vol. 4 which matches the others is #485 of a limited edition of 500. Original half vellum over light blue paper-covered boards with gilt medallion of a raven on the front, gilt lettering and design on the spine and gilt vertical rules on front and back. TEG, other edges untrimmed. Frontispiece preceding series title pages. All plates protected by tissue guards with printed captions. Coburn's numerous plates and other illustrations throughout the text are exceptional. Vellum is foxed on all volumes. Volume 1's rear board has a circular mar, three tiny white specks and the paper is slightly folded back from the vellum for about an inch. There is a light water stain on the bottom corner through the entire text block that does not affect the text. Paper loss about 1/2" from the top corner of Vol. 4. Vol. 10 is rubbed and scraped on the extremities. Overall the condition is very good and except for Vol 1, internally near fine: clean and tight throughout.

Price clipped pictorial jacket has light creasing to the extremities, minor closed tear on the upper edge of the spine.in mylar sleeve. Bill Veeck was a rebel owner who defied standard practices to promote his teams. On August 19, 1951 he had Eddie Gaedel, a midget come out of a papier-mache cake between games of a doubleheader. Gaedel then pinch-hit in the second game and walked on four straight pitches. This was his only at bat in the Major Leabues. Veeck was the only owner to support Curt Flood in the landmark free agency court case.
