A scarce original copy of the 212 anniversary of the 1677 attack by Indians on the village of Hatfield. They took 17 hostages , burned 7 houses and barns, killed 12 villagers and wounded four. Among the captives were Benjamin Waite's wife and three young daughters. Benjamn Waite and Stephen Jennings set off to rescue the captives, who were taken to Canada, and were eventualy freed and escorted home from Albany.

30, [1]p. the white covers are somewhat soiled, there is wear at the forecorners, with about half-of-a-dime scrape on the front cover away from all printing and illustration, the twelve stamps are in very good to near fine condition, although there is a little smudginess around the white border of three of the stamps and a tiny corner of a border is lacking on one of the stamps. The last stamp is repeated on the front cover. The endpapers have a child's drawings and scribblings in pencil on them and they are easily erasable and the back paste-down endpaper has a department store's small label which indicates that the original price for this item was 25 cents, but which may have been reduced to 22 cents. The binding is sound. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall

The illustrations and text are in near fine condition, some of the issues have been cropped affecting some text on the covers, but never into an illustration and never affecting the pages inside. The bindings are sound. Many of the illustrations are in color, and the colors are vibrant.
