Cloth. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 200p. A good copy, the original covers of which, are quite worn along the top and fore-edges, the spine has been plainly rebacked, the inner joints have been reinforced. The London surgeon Hood (1808-1890) here advocates the treatment of scarlet fever by "the systematic administration of quinine from an early stage, preceded, however, by an emetic and a purgative, and with sundry minor precautions; and the author then strongly affirms, not only that his method saves life, but that it prevents the occurrence of secondary infections of the viscera, particularly renal dropsy." (The Practitioner ap. Waring.) He next devotes some forty pages to laryngismus stridulus. A second edition of this book appeared in 1869.
