xv, [17]-312p. A most unusual copy, comprising all twenty-four loose gatherings, a few stabbed for sewing but never sewed or bound, untrimmed and largely unopened. Leaf 17 torn by the binder (without loss); the prelims vertically creased; otherwise in remarkably good condition. A "clinical physician of the first order". Habershon (1825-1889) "had a high reputation, especially in abdominal diseases, which he did much to elucidate. He was the first in England to propose the operation of gastrostomy for stricture of the oesophagus, which Cooper Forster performed in 1858." The present work was his first and most important book. (J. F. Goodhart ap. Munk 4.84; DNB 8.857/1.)
